Shelbi Gesch serves as an Adjunct Assistant Professor in the English Department at Dordt University. She rejoined Dordt after a twenty-year hiatus, completing her Bachelor of Arts in English, Writing in 2017 and later earning a Master of Fine Arts in Creative Writing from Augsburg University with an emphasis on Creative Nonfiction and a concentration in teaching.
Shelbi’s work focuses on nature writing, memoir, and exploring the intersection of Christian education with everyday experiences. She has published in outlets like The Banner, Pro Rege, and Fathom, often addressing themes of Midwestern life and contemporary issues through essays. At Dordt, she teaches courses such as:
- Core 120: English Composition
- Core 180: Responding to Literature
She resides in Colton, South Dakota, with her husband and three children, two of whom are third-generation Dordt students. Shelbi is deeply committed to equipping students for Kingdom work through her teaching and writing.
