Sheila Webber is a Senior Lecturer at the School of Information, Journalism and Communication, University of Sheffield. She holds a BA from Kent at Canterbury and a Dip Lib from London Metropolitan University, with fellowships from CILIP (FCLIP) and the Higher Education Academy (FHEA). Her research focuses on information literacy (IL) and information behavior (IB), emphasizing qualitative methods like phenomenography and case studies. She directs the Centre for Information Literacy Research and leads the Libraries and Information Society Research Group.
She has held roles including Head of the British Library’s Business Information Service and lecturer at Strathclyde University. Notable awards include the 2015 Jason Farradane Award for contributions to Information Science and a 2017 Honorary Fellowship from CILIP. Teaching responsibilities include coordinating MA/PGDip programs in Library and Information Services Management and modules on Information Literacy (INF6350; INF6553).
Research interests span IL in diverse contexts—virtual environments, aging populations, and global education—alongside methodological innovation. Her work bridges academia and practice, emphasizing student engagement in research. Recent publications explore artificial serendipity in online marketplaces, age-friendly information policies, and IL frameworks in Pakistan.
