Shavawn Berry is a Lecturer in English at Arizona State University, teaching courses in business writing, creative writing, composition, and technical editing since 2004. She holds a Master of Professional Writing from the University of Southern California (1998) and a B.A. in English from New York University (1987).
Her research focuses on creative nonfiction, memoir, and pedagogical approaches to writing. She co-founded The Pen Project, facilitating writing workshops for incarcerated individuals, and serves as faculty advisor for the Prison Education Student Club. She is the creative nonfiction editor for Iron City Magazine.
Berry received the Lincoln Center for Applied Ethics Fellowship (2013) and multiple teaching awards for innovative pedagogy, including pioneering e-portfolio implementation. Her poetry and essays appear in The Huffington Post, Rebelle Society, and literary anthologies like The Cancer Poetry Project 2.
