Randall Horton, Ph.D., is a Professor of English in the College of Arts and Sciences at the University of New Haven. His academic journey includes a Ph.D. in English/Creative Writing from SUNY Albany, an M.F.A. in Poetry from Chicago State University, and a B.A. in English from the University of the District of Columbia.
Dr. Horton's research and creative work center on prison literature, social justice, and African-American literature. He founded the Radical Reversal podcast and program, which uses poetry, music, and podcasting to enhance rehabilitation for incarcerated youth. His Freedom Reads initiative has established libraries in correctional institutions.
His publications include the award-winning works Dead Weight: A Memoir in Essays (2022) and {#289-128}: Poems (2020), both exploring themes of mass incarceration, racial justice, and personal redemption. His articles and poetry have appeared in journals such as Brilliant Corners: Journal of Jazz & Literature and Black Cinema.

Advising & Grants:
Dr. Horton serves as director of the performing arts program for Freedom Reads and has secured grants for prison literacy initiatives. He teaches courses such as Prison Literature and Advanced Poetry Workshop.

Co-founder of the experimental performance group Heroes Are Gang Leaders, which received the American Book Award for Oral Literature, and creator of the Radical Reversal podcast.
