Dr. Shaun Moss is the Executive Director of the Oceanic Institute of Hawaii Pacific University (HPU), where he leads a major marine research center. He previously served as Associate Professor in the Marine Sciences Department at HPU and has held multiple leadership roles at the Oceanic Institute, including Director of the Shrimp Department, Vice President of Research and Development, and Acting President and CEO for Scientific Programs.
His research focuses on sustainable shrimp aquaculture, selective breeding, biosecurity, and environmentally sound growout technologies. His work has contributed significantly to advancing aquaculture practices globally, with field projects conducted in China, India, Indonesia, Thailand, Singapore, and Vietnam.
Dr. Moss has authored or co-authored over 60 peer-reviewed manuscripts, book chapters, and conference proceedings in marine and aquaculture sciences. His career reflects a strong integration of research, innovation, and leadership in marine science and sustainable food production systems.
He received his Ph.D. in Zoology from the University of Hawaii in 1993 and was a Fulbright Scholar in eastern Indonesia from 1993 to 1994.

Dr. Moss has led major research initiatives, including the USDA-funded U.S. Marine Shrimp Farming Program. His leadership at the Oceanic Institute involves managing research teams, securing grants, and directing long-term aquaculture innovation projects. He mentors researchers and contributes to national and international aquaculture policy and development.
He is affiliated with the Oceanic Institute, a research unit of Hawaii Pacific University, where he continues to advance marine science and sustainable aquaculture through applied research and technology transfer.
