Dr Sharmila Khot is a Consultant in the Department of Anaesthesia, Intensive Care and Pain Medicine at Cardiff and Vale University Health Board and an Honorary Senior Lecturer at the Cardiff University Brain Research Imaging Centre (CUBRIC), School of Psychology. Her research focuses on pain physiology, neuroimaging, and pharmacological interventions in conditions like rheumatoid arthritis and multiple sclerosis.

Her recent publications integrate neuroscience, pharmacology, and clinical practice, emphasizing brain imaging and pain mechanisms in rheumatoid arthritis, fibromyalgia, and ME/CFS. She co-supervises a PhD project on virtual reality for persistent low back pain and leads grants including the Wellcome Trust Institutional Translational Partnership Award. Her work includes methodological advancements in functional MRI and topical drug development (Gabagel™).
