Shaoyi Jiang

Shaoyi Jiang is the Robert Langer ’70 Family and Friends Professor in the Meinig School of Biomedical Engineering at Cornell University. His research focuses on zwitterionic materials for biomedical applications, including drug delivery systems, antifouling coatings, and regenerative medicine. He pioneered super-hydrophilic zwitterionic polymers that mitigate immunogenicity and improve biocompatibility, addressing challenges in medical implants and mRNA vaccines. Jiang has 55+ patents and co-founded companies like ZWI Therapeutics and Imperion Coatings.

Education: B.S. (Hua Qiao University, 1985), M.S. (Nanjing Institute of Chemical Technology, 1988), Ph.D. (Cornell University, 1993), followed by postdoctoral work at UC Berkeley and Caltech.

Research interests span biomaterials, drug delivery, and nanomedicine. Collaborations include Weill Cornell Medicine and Cornell Veterinary Medicine. Awards include AAAS Fellowship and National Academy of Inventors recognition.

His lab develops zwitterionic hydrogels for stem cell expansion, anticoagulant-free devices, and targeted cancer vaccines using engineered extracellular vesicles. The Jiang Fellows program supports entrepreneurship among Cornell students.
