Dr. Shannon L Jordan serves as Associate Professor in the Department of Health and Kinesiology within Lamar University's College of Education and Human Development. She joined Lamar in 2014 as Visiting Professor, became Assistant Professor in 2016, and was promoted to her current rank. Prior experience includes Visiting Professor at Texas Wesleyan University (2012-2014). Her teaching portfolio spans eight undergraduate courses including Exercise Physiology and Fitness for Special Populations, plus graduate-level Cardiopulmonary Exercise Physiology and Strength & Conditioning.
Her educational background includes:
- Ph.D. from Texas Woman’s University (2016)
- M.S. from Texas Tech University (2007)
- B.S. from Kansas State University (2004)
Dr. Jordan's research program investigates oxidative stress biomarkers, ergogenic aids, obesity, and metabolic syndrome through laboratory-based physiological testing. Current projects examine vaping effects on respiratory condensate, metabolic health disparities in Mexican Americans, and cinnamon supplementation for prediabetes management. Her work bridges fundamental exercise science with practical health applications for diverse populations including athletes, farmers, and occupational groups.
Analysis of her recent publications reveals strong interdisciplinary trends with significant contributions to space physiology (Acta Astronautica 2022) and clinical applications of exercise science. Her research consistently connects laboratory findings to real-world health outcomes across seven distinct subfields of exercise physiology.
Scientific Awards: No specific awards are documented in the provided information.
Dr. Jordan actively mentors undergraduate researchers through the Office of Undergraduate Research and serves as primary advisor for exercise science students. Her university service includes leadership roles on the Institutional Review Board (as Vice Chair), COEHD Retention Committee, and as Exercise Science Coordinator. She maintains active research collaborations with NASA and clinical partners while contributing to departmental strategic planning.
Though no formal laboratory is designated, Dr. Jordan conducts research through departmental facilities and external partnerships, focusing on translational projects that address community health needs through exercise physiology principles.
