Shane Lehane is a part-time lecturer in the Department of Folklore and Ethnology at University College Cork (UCC). His primary research interests include custom, tradition, belief, material culture, folklife, and Irish vernacular traditions. He has developed a PhD thesis focusing on material culture and time. Previously, he served as a demonstrator in UCC's Department of Celtic Civilisation.
As Course Director of Cultural and Heritage Studies at Cork College of Further Education, he has lectured in archaeology, folklore, history, and the arts for over 30 years, aiding both young and mature students in progressing to third-level humanities programs. He is actively involved in public engagement, notably as a regular contributor on RTÉ's Today Show discussing Irish folk customs and traditions.
Shane has been instrumental in supporting overseas students through programs like the Early Start Programme and FL2111 Aspects of Irish Folklore. Beyond academia, he is a beekeeper and advocate for Irish vernacular craft practices.
