Stiofán Ó Cadhla is a Senior Lecturer in Folklore at University College Cork (UCC). He holds a permanent full-time position since 1999, previously serving as Acting Head of Department. His research focuses on folklore, cultural representation, language preservation, and historical ethnography, with particular emphasis on Irish indigenous cultures and colonial-era discourse. Key publications include Civilizing Ireland (2007) and The Holy Well Tradition (2002), exploring topics like the Ordnance Survey's impact on Irish culture and pilgrimage traditions.
Education: Degrees in Sociology, Irish, Celtic Civilisation, and Folklore. Research interests bridge academic and vernacular knowledge, challenging colonial-era frameworks in folklore studies. Awards include the Duais Chuimhneacháin Phiarais Bhéaslaí (1996) and a prose prize at Oireachtas na Gaeilge (2010).
