Shane Hamilton is a Professor of Strategy, Management, and Society at the University of York School for Business and Society. He serves as Deputy Associate Dean for Research and Impact, and leads the Transformative Food Systems interdisciplinary cluster. His research explores the historical political economy of agribusiness, focusing on business history, technological innovation, and environmental sustainability. Hamilton is the award-winning author of *Supermarket USA* and *Trucking Country*, and has held roles as President of the Agricultural History Society and Trustee of the Business History Conference. His work bridges academia and practice, with consulting experience on sustainable agriculture strategies for public agencies.
Hamilton’s research interests span business history, entrepreneurship, and regulatory policy, with a focus on agrifood systems and technological change. His recent projects include analyzing retailer standards in small farm sustainability and oral histories of business diversity in York. He has been awarded the Herman E. Krooss Prize for Best Dissertation in Business History and multiple Grant-in-Aid fellowships.
Teaching modules include strategy, management, and ethics. He has advised on over 20 research projects and serves on editorial boards for *Enterprise & Society* and *American Business, Politics, and Society*. His interdisciplinary work examines intersections between capitalism, technology, and environmental governance.
