Dr. Shamim Mia is a Postdoctoral Research Associate at the University of Sydney's School of Life and Environmental Sciences (SOLES), focusing on soil mineral-organic matter interactions and long-term carbon storage. He holds a Ph.D. from the University of Sydney and an MSc in Environmental Sciences from Wageningen University. Previously, he served as academic staff at Patuakhali Science and Technology University in Bangladesh.
His research employs advanced techniques such as synchrotron NEXAFS and FTIR to study soil organic carbon stabilization. Awards include the University of Sydney Postgraduate Award and the Netherlands Government Fellowship (Nuffic). He currently advises students on soil carbon sequestration projects.
Key contributions include work on biochar applications, soil salinity management, and climate resilience in agriculture. He collaborates with institutions like the Sydney Institute of Agriculture and is affiliated with Soil Science Australia and the Bangladesh Society of Agronomy.
