معرفی
Professor Balwant Singh is a Professor in Soil Chemistry at the University of Sydney's School of Life and Environmental Sciences. He joined in 1998 after serving as a lecturer in soil mineralogy at the University of Reading. His research focuses on environmental soil chemistry, specifically mineral-organic interactions, biochar applications for carbon sequestration, and clay mineral properties. He is affiliated with the Sydney Institute of Agriculture and Sydney Southeast Asia Centre.
Key research areas include:
- Mechanisms of soil carbon stabilization through mineral associations
- Heavy metal sorption dynamics on mineral surfaces
- Biochar functionality and classification systems
- Impacts of land use changes on soil organic carbon
- Ecotoxicological effects of plastics in soils
Recent work emphasizes global-scale relationships between soil organic carbon and metal species, microbial carbon use efficiency variations with clay content, and meta-analyses of plastic pollution impacts. He has authored major textbooks including Environmental Soil Chemistry (Elsevier, 2023) and edited volumes on biochar methods and synchrotron techniques in soils.
Active grants include projects on soil-plant nexus for carbon sequestration (2022) and national facilities for pyrogenic carbon analysis (2017). Collaborative networks span Australia and Asia-Pacific regions with focus on sustainable soil management strategies.
