Shaina Potts

Shaina Potts is an Associate Professor in the Department of Geography at UCLA, College of Letters and Science, specializing in economic, legal, and political geography. Her research examines the intersection of international political economy, geopolitics, and law, with a focus on sovereign debt crises and the role of states in global economic governance.

Dr. Potts holds a Ph.D. from UC Berkeley (2017) and a B.A. from UC Berkeley (2005). Her work critically analyzes how transnational economic relations are shaped by legal and institutional practices, challenging notions of placeless globalization. Current research investigates the geopolitical implications of judicial systems in economic governance.
