Dr. Sosa-Padilla has held previous academic appointments at McMaster University (Canada) and has been a visiting scholar at Princeton University (2019-20 as a Peter B. His work frequently explores the interplay between political factors, macroeconomic policies, and international financial systems, particularly in emerging economies.
His research interests are reflected in his teaching, which includes graduate-level international macroeconomics and undergraduate macroeconomic theory. He has organized numerous academic conferences, including the PAELLA Workshop at Notre Dame, the ND-PUC Luksburg Conference, and the INVECO-UNT Annual Conference.
Key contributions include analyzing sovereign default triggers, reserve management strategies, and the impact of international sanctions on economies. His 2016 Polanyi Prize for Economics from Ontario highlights his significant scholarly impact. Current projects address borrowing patterns influenced by China, macroprudential policy design, and the political economy of sovereign spreads.
