Seçkin Eroğlu is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Biological Sciences at Middle East Technical University (METU), Ankara. His research focuses on plant micronutrient homeostasis, particularly iron, manganese, and zinc dynamics in seeds and germination processes. He employs genetic and molecular approaches in Arabidopsis thaliana to identify genes regulating metal transport and storage, aiming to enhance crop biofortification to combat malnutrition.
Education:
- B.Sc. Molecular Biology and Genetics, METU (2003-2008)
- M.Sc. Genetics and Bioengineering, Yeditepe University (2008-2010)
- Ph.D. Molecular Plant Nutrition, Leibniz Institute of Plant Genetics and Crop Plant Research (IPK-Gatersleben), Germany (2010-2015)
- Postdoctoral Research, Department of Biological Sciences, Dartmouth College, USA (2018-2019)
Research Interests:
- Metal transport proteins (e.g., VIT1, MTP8)
- Seed development and nutrient distribution
- Biofortification strategies for staple crops
- Plant stress responses to metal deficiencies
Publications highlight advancements in understanding metal homeostasis mechanisms, with recent work exploring nanomaterial-based sensors and comparative educational studies. His lab's findings contribute to both fundamental plant biology and applied agricultural solutions.
