Seth Kim-Cohen is a Professor of Art History, Theory, and Criticism at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago (SAIC). His work bridges artistic practice, scholarly research, and pedagogy, emphasizing the intersections of art with socio-political systems.
Education: BFA from Emerson College and PhD from the London Consortium, University of London. His research focuses on sound art, conceptualism, and critiques of neoliberalism's impact on artistic production. He actively challenges systemic white supremacy, patriarchy, and capitalist exploitation in academic and creative contexts.
Teaching emphasizes anti-essentialist approaches, exploring how art interacts with economics, politics, and ideology. Courses include 'Rock and Roll vs. Modernism,' 'History of Sonic Art,' and 'We'll Fix it in Post: Postmodernism, Poststructuralism, Posthumanism.'
Key fellowships include the Andrew Mellon Collaborative Fellowship (2021) and a LABEX Fellowship (2016). His creative work spans performance, sound, and installation, exhibited globally. He retired from active artmaking in 2023 but continues as a musician and writer.
