Dr. Sergio Vernuccio is an Associate Professor in Chemical Engineering at the University of Southampton. He holds a BEng and MEng from the University of Naples Federico II (Italy), an MSc from Sapienza University of Rome, and a PhD from ETH Zurich (Switzerland). Previously, he worked at Technip as a Process Engineer, conducted postdoctoral research at Northwestern University, and served as a Lecturer at the University of Sheffield.
Research Focus: His work bridges catalysis and reaction engineering to address sustainability challenges in chemical industries. Key areas include heterogeneous catalysis, photocatalysis, electrocatalysis, and thermal decomposition modeling of Li-ion batteries. He combines theoretical and experimental approaches to develop novel engineering solutions.
Teaching: Leads CHEG6009 - Process Integration and Intensification and lectures in CHEG2002 - Process Control and Safety. He is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy with expertise in pedagogical design.
Professional Roles: Editorial Board Member of Chemical Engineering Science and Chemical Engineering Journal Advances. Chartered Engineer (CEng) with affiliations to IChemE, the Royal Society of Chemistry, and the Higher Education Academy.
