Dr. Sergio Vernuccio is a Visiting Professor at the School of Chemical, Materials and Biological Engineering at the University of Sheffield. He earned a BA (2008) and MA summa cum laude (2010) in Chemical Engineering from the University of Naples Federico II, followed by a PhD in Process Engineering (2017) from ETH Zurich. His professional experience includes a Process Engineer role at Technip Italy S.p.A. (2011-2014) and postdoctoral research at Northwestern University (2017-2019) under Prof. Linda J. Broadbelt.
Research Interests: Dr. Vernuccio's work bridges catalysis, reaction engineering, and process intensification. Key areas include microkinetic modeling of zeolite-catalyzed reactions, structured reactor design, acid-base oligomerization mechanisms, and Li-ion battery thermal runaway analysis. His research emphasizes linking macroscopic observations to fundamental reaction phenomena.
Article Trends: His publications focus on hydrogenation reactions in structured reactors (2015-2018), shale gas upgrading via zeolite catalysis (2019), and machine learning applications for reactor optimization (2022). Recent 2023 work addresses thermal safety in energy storage systems.
Teaching: He contributes to undergraduate courses CPE140 Principles of Chemical Engineering 2 and CPE401 Research Projects.
