Serge Rossignol is an Associate Professor at the University of Montreal's Faculty of Medicine, Department of Neuroscience. His research focuses on physiological and pharmacological mechanisms of locomotion recovery after spinal cord injuries in animal models, alongside therapeutic approaches such as pharmacological and electrical stimulation. He is affiliated with the Groupe de recherche sur le système nerveux central (GRSNC) and the REPAR provincial research network in adaptation-rehabilitation.
He has directed major research projects, including studies on spinal cord MRI quantification and adaptive mechanisms of locomotion post-spinal lesions. Notable awards include the Prix Léo-Pariseau (1998), the CRSNG Promotion of Science Prize (2004), and the prestigious Ipsen Foundation Award for Neuronal Plasticity (2003).
Rossignol has advised numerous graduate students on topics ranging from spinal cord imaging to locomotor training in cats. His research has been funded by major institutions like the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (IRSC) and the Fonds de recherche du Québec.
