Daniel Lajeunesse is a Full Professor in the Department of Medicine at the University of Montreal's Faculty of Medicine. He also holds an accredited professorship in the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Medicine. His primary affiliation is with the CHUM Research Center, where he conducts research on osteoarthritis pathogenesis and bone biology. Dr. Lajeunesse completed his PhD in Biochemistry at the University of Montreal and pursued postdoctoral training at the NIH, Baltimore.
He has held significant administrative roles, including Director of Graduate Studies in Biomedical Sciences (2004–2013) and Vice-Dean of Basic Sciences and Graduate Studies at the Faculty of Medicine (2013–present). He has served on peer-review committees for Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR), Fonds de recherche du Québec (FRQ), and international organizations.
His research focuses on the role of subchondral bone in osteoarthritis, including Wnt signaling pathways, growth factors (IGF-1, HGF, TGF-β), and leptin's role in bone metabolism. He has authored over 88 publications, 12 book chapters, and 200+ conference presentations. His work has led to awards such as the 2014 Clinical PhD Researcher Award from the Faculty of Medicine.
Dr. Lajeunesse has supervised 27 graduate students and 22 undergraduate researchers. His grants include leadership in projects like the Role of Prohibitins and SUMOylation in Osteoarthritis Pathogenesis (2018–2024) and collaborations in the Subvention de Formation des IRSC en Evaluation et Traitement des Troubles de la Mobilite et de la Posture (2009–2015).
Key labs/teams: He collaborates with research networks such as the REPAR (Provincial Network for Adaptation-Rehabilitation Research) and GRUM (University Research Group on Medicines). His work bridges molecular mechanisms and clinical applications in osteoarthritis treatment.
