Serena Ghiselli

Serena Ghiselli is a Fixed-term Junior Researcher at the Department of Interpretation and Translation, University of Bologna. Her research focuses on neurocognitive bases of language perception in late bilinguals, with an emphasis on working memory and selective attention in interpreting. She holds a PhD in Translation, Interpreting, and Intercultural Studies from the University of Bologna (2019), where her thesis on cognitive development in interpreters was awarded highest honors.

Her research interests span cognitive aspects of interpreting expertise, corpus-based translation analysis, and the role of digital media in language learning. She has conducted projects funded by the Italian Ministry of Education (PRIN) and held research fellowships at the University of Bologna and University of Granada. Her work bridges neurolinguistics and applied translation studies, exploring how cognitive processes shape professional interpreting practices.

Recent articles examine racist terminology translation in subtitles, internet-mediated language learning, and longitudinal studies on interpreting's impact on executive functions. She is an active member of AIA (Italian Association of English Studies) and has presented at international conferences in cognitive linguistics and translation studies.

Teaching activities include academic English courses, dialogue interpreting, and scientific English labs across multiple universities. She contributed to the MC2Lab (Cognitive Translation Studies Lab) and participated in the EU-funded SHIFT project on distance interpreting training.
