Raffaella Tonin is an Associate Professor at the Department of Interpretation and Translation (DIT) of the Alma Mater Studiorum - University of Bologna, where she teaches Spanish-to-Italian translation and dialogic interpreting since 2012. Her academic work spans translation pedagogy, children's literature, and interdisciplinary research on language and culture.
Education:
- Bachelor's in Translation (English and Spanish) from the Advanced School of Modern Languages for Interpreters and Translators (SSLMIT), University of Bologna (1998)
- PhD in Modern Language Linguistics (Spanish) from the University of Pisa (2004)
- Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the University of Padua (2009-2011)
Research Interests focus on:
- Translation of illustrated literature for young audiences (e.g., graphic novels, picture books)
- History of translation, including analysis of Spanish translations of Cesare Beccaria's Dei delitti e delle pene
- Contact linguistics (Anglicisms, neologisms, pseudonyms)
- Collaborative translation dynamics and skill acquisition
- Tourism language and multimodal translation
- Amateur subtitling (fansubbing) as an educational tool
