معرفی
Serena Ceriotti, DVM, MS, PhD, DACVIM-LA, serves as a Clinical Lecturer in Equine Emergency Medicine & Surgery at Auburn University's College of Veterinary Medicine. She joined the faculty in 2023 and provides critical after-hours emergency care at the JT Vaughan Large Animal Teaching Hospital while supporting the equine emergency ambulatory service across Alabama.
Her educational journey includes:
- MS in Biomedical Sciences from Auburn University (2023)
- PhD in Veterinary Sciences from the University of Milan, Italy (2018)
- DVM (cum laude) from the University of Milan, Italy (2013)
Dr. Ceriotti's research program centers on equine respiratory pathophysiology, with groundbreaking work on pulmonary vascular remodeling in severe equine asthma and age-related β2-adrenergic receptor dynamics. Her clinical expertise spans emergency and critical care management for adult horses and neonatal foals, integrating translational approaches to advance receptorology and pharmacological interventions in respiratory diseases. This dual focus bridges laboratory discoveries with real-world patient care.
Analysis of her publication record reveals consistent contributions to equine respiratory medicine, gastrointestinal diagnostics, and surgical innovation. Key themes include pulmonary artery remodeling in asthma, ultrasonographic diagnosis of bowel disease, antimicrobial stewardship in surgery, and novel treatments for gastric ulcers. Her work demonstrates a translational trajectory connecting molecular mechanisms to clinical applications across multiple physiological systems.
Her primary professional recognition includes:
- Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine (ACVIM) in Large Animal Internal Medicine (2023)
While Dr. Ceriotti's clinical responsibilities dominate her current role, her research trajectory suggests ongoing exploration of receptor-level mechanisms in equine respiratory diseases. Her involvement in antimicrobial stewardship initiatives and surgical innovation projects indicates engagement with veterinary teaching hospital quality improvement programs.
She actively contributes to Auburn University's clinical mission through the JT Vaughan Large Animal Teaching Hospital emergency services, where she manages critical cases and mentors veterinary students during after-hours rotations. Her FEI Permitted Treating Veterinarian status further supports elite equine competition medicine.
