Serde Atalay is a Doctoral student and Researcher at Lund University's Faculty of Law, specializing in Human Rights Law, Migration Law, and Public International Law. Her PhD project examines migrants' and refugees' right to housing without discrimination under international law, within the larger project 'The Borders Within' led by Dr. Vladislava Stoyanova. She holds an LL.M. in International Human Rights Law from Lund University and an M.A. in Labour and Social Security Law from Ankara University.
Her research focuses on housing, social rights, discrimination law, law and political economy, and the intersection of migration with socio-economic rights. She actively presents at international conferences, organizes workshops on migration and human rights law, and collaborates with initiatives like The Lotus Project and the Comparative Equality and Anti-Discrimination Group. She has contributed case notes to Oxford Reports on International Law and co-edited a special issue on socio-economic rights and non-discrimination in EU law.
Teaching includes courses on public international law, migration law, human rights law, and the right to housing. She has trained students for the European Law Moot Court and completed pedagogical training at Lund University's Division for Higher Education Development. Her work contributes to UN SDGs 10 (Reduced Inequalities) and 11 (Sustainable Cities).
Awards include Elsa Eschelsson's Scholarship (2024), Rune and Lena Lavin's Foundation funding (2023), and scholarships from the Western Balkans/Türkiye and the Scientific and Technological Research Council of Türkiye (2018–2021).
She participates in projects like the Working Group on Socio-Economic Inequalities and Poverty Discrimination, and collaborates with institutions including the Refugee Studies Centre (Oxford) and the University of California, Berkeley. She co-convenes the Law, Theology, and Culture seminar series and is involved in transnational legal networks.
