Seonhee Kim, PhD, is a Professor at the Lewis Katz School of Medicine, Temple University, holding joint appointments in the Department of Neural Sciences, the Center for Neural Development and Repair, and the Department of Biomedical Education and Data Science. She is an active member of the Society for Neuroscience and the Society of Developmental Biology.
Dr. Kim earned her BS and MS from Sogang University (1990, 1992), followed by a PhD from Rutgers University/UMDNJ (2000), and completed her postdoctoral fellowship at BIDMC/Harvard Medical School (2007).
Her research centers on molecular and cellular mechanisms of brain development, with emphasis on cell polarity regulation in neural progenitor proliferation, neuronal migration, and synapse formation. Using conditional Pals1 knockout models, her laboratory investigates neurodevelopmental disorders including autism, epilepsy, and intellectual disabilities through genetic ablation, in utero electroporation, viral vector delivery, and biochemical assays.
Dr. Kim leads research at the Center for Neural Development and Repair, utilizing animal models of hydrocephalus and cerebellar hypoplasia to elucidate CNS development mechanisms while mentoring trainees in advanced neural development methodologies.
