Senthil Natesan is an Associate Professor in the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences at Washington State University (WSU), College of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences. He leads the Modeling & Simulation Lab, focusing on computational drug design and membrane protein interactions.
- Education:
- PhD in Pharmaceutical Sciences (Computational Drug Design), North Dakota State University (2008–2010)
- MEng in Information Technology (Bioinformatics), Indian Institute of Information Technology, Allahabad, India (2004–2006)
- Bachelor of Pharmacy, The Tamil Nadu Dr. MGR Medical University, India
- Diploma in Pharmacy, Thanjavur Medical College, India
Research Interests: His work spans computational drug design, membrane protein interactions, and oxysterol-integrin signaling. He investigates how membrane lipids influence drug binding to GPCRs, ion channels, and integrins, with applications in inflammation, pain, and rare diseases like SSADHD.
Recent Publications highlight his leadership in generative AI for drug discovery, membrane-facilitated ligand binding, and oxysterol-driven inflammation. He collaborates extensively with Dr. Santanu Bose and Dr. Jean-Baptiste Roullet.
- Scientific Awards:
- Chancellor’s Excellence in Teaching Award, 2021
- Cetero/PRACS Institute Graduate Student Research Excellence Award, 2009
- NSF-ND-EPSCoR Doctoral Fellowship, 2008–2010
- Institute Silver Medal, Indian Institute of Information Technology, 2006
- MHRD Graduate Research Scholarship, 2004–2006
Grants: Currently funded by NIH/NIGMS (R01 GM137022-01, 2020–2024), Washington Research Foundation (2021–2022), and prior NIH/NINDS (R41 NS107099-01, 2018–2019).
Lab Members: Current graduate students include Peter Obi, Ayobami Diyaolu, and Christopher Szlenk (now at Schrodinger, NY). Past members include Justin Chen, Ila Srivastava, and Adian Talib.
