Senem Özkul is a Lecturer at the Faculty of Law, Department of Social Law at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. She combines her academic role with a part-time position as a paralegal at Van Doorne N.V., working one day per week since September 2024. Her research focuses on collective enforcement mechanisms of labor law by trade unions, examining how unions contribute to compliance with labor standards.
She teaches courses including Labour Law, Labour Law Clinic, and Advanced Labour Law. Her research project 'Strengthening Labour Law Enforcement by Collective Redress' (2023-2024) explores systemic improvements in legal compliance. Collaborations include work with the Kooijmans Institute and Dutch legal institutions.
Her publications analyze union practices in enforcing collective agreements and labor norms, emphasizing both practical challenges and theoretical frameworks in legal enforcement. Özkul's interdisciplinary approach bridges legal theory and practical labor market dynamics.
