Seirin Nagano

Seirin Nagano is an Adjunct Professor of Japanese at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, teaching in the Department of Languages, Cultures and Translation. She is also Co-Director of Goodyear Arts and a practicing mixed-media artist. Her academic background includes a BFA and MFA from the School of Visual Arts in New York City. Nagano’s artistic practice focuses on creating visual structures that bridge internal and external realities, blending architectural, geometric, and organic elements to explore existential themes. Her work has been exhibited in venues such as the Mint Museum (Charlotte, NC) and Electronic Arts Intermix (New York City). Notable recognition includes a residency at Goodyear Arts (2019) and Charlotte Magazine’s 'Artist to Watch' honor (2020). She currently resides in Charlotte, where she actively contributes to both academic and artistic communities.

Research Interests: Nagano’s art investigates the intersection of corporeal and spiritual existence through sculptural and mixed-media installations. She employs architectural frameworks to visualize 'phantom spaces' where human consciousness interacts with physical environments. Her work merges technical precision (e.g., geometric structures) with organic spontaneity to question the boundaries of lived experience. Recent projects include commissioned works for Camp North End and a book collaboration with Toronto University Press.
