Dr. Sébastien Bachelet is a Lecturer in Social Anthropology at the University of Manchester, specializing in migration studies, forced displacement, and visual anthropology. His work focuses on the Maghreb region, particularly Morocco and France, examining issues like criminalization of solidarity actors, migrant advocacy, and participatory research methods.
He holds a PhD from the University of Edinburgh (2011–2016) on irregular sub-Saharan migrants in Morocco. His research combines ethnographic fieldwork with creative methods, producing both academic outputs and exhibitions like the Hors-Champs photography series.
Current projects include the ESRC-funded Acts/Crimes of Solidarity, exploring repression of migration activists in Morocco and France, and the AHRC-funded MADAR-Network Plus, improving humanitarian protection in the Maghreb through interdisciplinary collaboration.
