Sebastian Dullien

Sebastian Dullien is Professor for International Economics at HTW Berlin, University of Applied Sciences, and Senior Policy Fellow at the European Council on Foreign Relations. He serves as University Lecturer in the Department of International and Development Economics within the School of Economics and Law. Since April 1, 2019, he has held the position of Scientific Director of the Institute of Macroeconomics and Business Cycle Research (IMK) at the Hans Böckler Foundation.

Professor Dullien's research focuses on Economics, International Economic Relations, Monetary Policy, European Integration, Macroeconomics, and Development Economics. His work examines sustainability, Brexit, the euro crisis, global financial crisis, public debt, and environmental sustainability through a multi-paradigmatic approach that situates macroeconomics within broader social and ecological contexts with special attention to European institutions.

Dullien co-authored the influential textbook "Macroeconomics in Context - A European Perspective" (2018), which presents macroeconomic principles with specific focus on European data, institutions, and historical events. The book combines real-world relevance with European institutional structures while explaining multiple economic paradigms, addressing topics including the euro crisis, global financial crisis, public debt, global development, and environmental sustainability.

Prior to joining HTW Berlin in 2007, Dullien worked as economics editor for the Financial Times Deutschland. He has advised numerous ministries, members of the German and European Parliament, and United Nations organizations. As Scientific Director of IMK, he leads research on macroeconomic trends and business cycle analysis while maintaining his academic position.
