Sebastian Czechowicz is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Criminal Law at the Faculty of Law and Administration, University of Lodz. His academic work focuses on the intersection of criminal law, public health law, and medical law, with particular emphasis on vaccination policies, infectious disease control, and the legal protection of public health. He actively contributes to university governance and participates in numerous scientific conferences both in Poland and internationally.
Dr. Czechowicz completed his law studies with very good grades and earned a postgraduate degree in Medical Law, Bioethics and Medical Sociology from the University of Warsaw in 2021 with excellent results. He successfully defended his doctoral dissertation in 2024 with distinction on the topic of criminal law protection of children's right to health in the context of vaccine hesitancy in Poland. He also holds a TOLES certificate with excellent results and was a doctoral student at the Doctoral School of Social Sciences from 2019-2023.
His research interests span substantive criminal law, particularly the protection of human life and health; petty offences law, especially regarding public health violations; medical criminal law; and public health law, with emphasis on legal systems for counteracting infectious diseases. He conducts comparative legal research across European jurisdictions, examining how different countries address public health challenges through criminal and administrative law. His work frequently analyzes the balance between individual rights and public health protection, particularly in the context of mandatory vaccination policies.
Dr. Czechowicz's recent publications demonstrate a consistent focus on the legal frameworks surrounding vaccination policies and infectious disease control. His work bridges theoretical legal analysis with practical applications, examining Polish jurisprudence while placing it in a broader European and international context. He has published extensively in both Polish and international journals, with his research appearing in prominent legal publications across Europe.

Dr. Czechowicz has led significant research projects funded by the National Science Center, including a 2025 grant on legal aspects of public health protection and previous grants examining vaccination policies from comparative legal perspectives. His research has involved international collaborations, with research stays in France, Czech Republic, Italy, Portugal, and the United States. He has presented at numerous conferences, including the 14th and 15th World Conference on Bioethics, Medical Ethics and Health Law in Porto, organized by UNESCO and the University of Haifa.
While not leading a specific laboratory, Dr. Czechowicz participates in international research networks focused on bioethics and public health law. His work involves collaboration with scholars across Europe, contributing to the international discourse on the legal aspects of public health protection. He serves as an active member of the academic community through his participation in university governance as a former Senator of the University of Lodz (2020-2024) and member of various university councils.
