Sean M. Hartig is Associate Professor at Baylor College of Medicine with appointments in the Department of Medicine and Molecular & Cellular Biology. His research investigates fundamental mechanisms of metabolic regulation, particularly how environmental and dietary factors influence obesity comorbidities through adipose tissue biology and whole-body metabolism.
His laboratory employs mouse models and human studies to identify novel endocrine interactions between metabolic tissues. Major discoveries include repurposing auranofin for diabetes treatment and revealing vitamin B2's role in glucose regulation. Current projects examine developmental signals in adipose patterning and leptin bioavailability. Hartig leads multiple NIH-funded projects on metabolic dysfunction.
