Sean Bowden is a Senior Lecturer in Philosophy at Deakin University's School of Humanities and Social Sciences. His research explores contemporary French and European philosophy, with a focus on the philosophy of action and agency, and has authored several books including 'The Priority of Events: Deleuze's Logic of Sense' and co-edited collections on Deleuze, pragmatism, and twentieth-century French philosophy.
Bowden's research interests include expressive agency, the philosophy of events, and the works of Gilles Deleuze, Alain Badiou, and Friedrich Nietzsche. He investigates how agency is conceptualized in relation to events and expression, drawing from continental philosophy traditions.
Analysis of his publications reveals consistent engagement with Deleuzian philosophy, action theory, and critiques of representationalism. Recent work explores artistic agency, collective action ethics, and interdisciplinary connections between philosophy, art, and cognitive science.
He has supervised numerous doctoral and master's students, with topics ranging from philosophical foundations of affect and ideology to the works of Foucault, Whitehead, and Nietzsche. His students have explored diverse areas including digital outside, freedom in Bergson, and improvisation.
