Lukas Hoevelmann-Koeper is a doctoral student in Composition at the Royal College of Music in London, supervised by Dr Haris Kittos and Prof Robert Adlington, where he has been awarded an RCM scholarship. His research applies Gilles Deleuze's philosophy (notably Difference and Repetition) to composition and musicology, challenging traditional post-Platonic frameworks in favor of processes, difference, and multiplicity.
His compositions have received international recognition, including performance by the Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra. Notable achievements include:
- Second prize at the Toru Takemitsu Composition Award (2018) for Quantum Vacuum
- Awards at the German Music Competition (DMW), Franz Schubert and Modern Music Competition (University of Graz), and Indonesian Orchestra and Ensemble Competition
He was artist-in-residence at the Swatch Art Peace Hotel in Shanghai (2017–2018). His work intersects with philosophy (Nietzsche, Adorno, Bergson, Heidegger, Whitehead), technology, and cultural studies.
