Scott Woodard, D.M.A., is a Professor and currently serves as the Interim Associate Provost and Associate Vice President for Academic Affairs at West Virginia State University (WVSU). He also holds roles as Director of Instrumental Music and teaches conducting courses. Additionally, he is the Associate Conductor of the West Virginia Symphony Orchestra and Music Director of the Charleston Chamber Orchestra.
Dr. Woodard earned a Bachelor of Arts and Master of Arts in Music Education from Marshall University, followed by a Doctor of Musical Arts from Boston University. His career spans over 27 years in education, including leadership roles at Wirt County High School, Ceredo-Kenova High School, and Winfield High School, where he directed the acclaimed Winfield HS Band. His ensembles have achieved Superior ratings at festivals and performed internationally, including an Austrian tour in 2007.
His research and professional activities focus on orchestral conducting and music education. He has conducted orchestras in Russia, Georgia, and Austria, winning major competitions. Dr. Woodard is a member of prominent music organizations, including the National Association for Music Education and the Conductor’s Guild.
He has received prestigious awards, including First Prize in the 2006 International Conductor’s Workshop Competition and recognition at the International Academy of Advanced Conducting in 2011. His leadership extends to academic administration, where he oversees institutional academic affairs and supports student success initiatives through his role in the Office of the Provost.
