معرفی
Dr Scott Smid is a Senior Lecturer in the School of Biomedicine at the University of Adelaide's Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences. His research focuses on drug discovery and development, particularly investigating phytocannabinoids, synthetic cannabinoids, and endocannabinoids for their roles in treating gastrointestinal and neurodegenerative diseases. Key research areas include neuroprotection against Alzheimer's and Parkinson's via novel ligand development targeting beta-amyloid and alpha-synuclein. He explores cannabis phytochemicals for their anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, and chemotherapeutic properties, with a focus on natural products like seaweed, tea, and berries for gut and neuroprotection.
Dr Smid supervises Masters and PhD students in projects involving cannabis phytochemicals' neuroprotective properties, antibiotic activity of CBD derivatives, and natural product-based therapies for gut health. His work bridges preclinical research with translational medicine, aiming to develop novel treatments from natural compounds.
His publications emphasize cannabinoid-derived therapies, neuroprotection mechanisms, and the role of marine macroalgae in health. While no specific grants or awards are highlighted, his active research program demonstrates significant contributions to drug discovery and natural product pharmacology.
