Robert Laprairie is Associate Professor and GSK Chair in Drug Discovery at University of Saskatchewan's College of Pharmacy and Nutrition. He directs research on the endocannabinoid system with focus on CB1 receptor pharmacology, developing novel therapeutics for conditions including epilepsy, Huntington's disease, and pain management.
His lab investigates cannabinoid receptor allosteric modulators using molecular biology, cell culture, and animal models. Research examines how phytocannabinoids like THC and CBD affect CB1 function, with implications for neurological disorders. The team develops compounds to regulate receptor activity through innovative chemical approaches.
Honored as Saskatchewan-GSK Chair, he contributes to Cannabinoid Research Initiative of Saskatchewan and Canadian Consortium for Cannabinoid Researchers. Teaches molecular pharmacology and neuroscience in pharmacy programs and serves on CIHR grant review committees.
