Dr. Scott MacMillan is an Associate Professor of Management at Mount Saint Vincent University (MSVU), joining in 2010. His career spans 20 years with the YMCA in roles across management, research, and consulting in locations including Fredericton, Regina, Halifax, Toronto, and Jerusalem. He holds a BPE from the University of New Brunswick, an MBA and Ph.D. in Management from Saint Mary’s University, and a Certificate in Adult Education. His research focuses on meaning in work, career development, leadership, and management education, with a Ph.D. thesis titled Towards an Existential Approach to the Meaning of Work. He has taught globally, including in China, and authored The Big Game: 10 Strategies for Winning at Life (2003).
Dr. MacMillan teaches courses such as BUSI 1112 (Introduction to Business) and BUSI 2012 (Work and Career). His research has explored topics like organizational paradigms in nonprofit leadership and existentialism’s role in management. He has presented at conferences including the Atlantic Schools of Business and Association for Nonprofit & Social Economy Research.
His work emphasizes bridging theoretical frameworks with practical applications, particularly in leadership and career development. He has received a New Scholars Grant from MSVU and contributed to publications on global careers, workplace spirituality, and Canadian management research. His teaching and research reflect a commitment to enhancing understanding of work’s role in personal and organizational growth.
