Dr Scott James is a Visiting Associate Professor and Reader in Political Economy at King's College London, within the Department of Political Economy. He holds affiliations with the School of Politics & Economics and the Faculty of Social Science & Public Policy. His research focuses on financial governance, EU policy, Brexit implications, and the political economy of global financial markets.
Education:
- BA (Hons) in Politics, University of Liverpool (1998-2002)
- PhD in Europeanisation of National Policy Making, University of Manchester (2004-2008)
Research Interests: Dr James explores the political economy of financial regulation, Brexit's impact on UK-EU relations, and the role of financial institutions like the City of London. His work combines network analysis with theories of business power, examining regulatory responses to crises and post-Brexit policy dynamics.
Grants & Awards:
- Principal Investigator for ESRC-funded 'Voices in the City' project (2012-2014)
- Co-Investigator on Horizon 2020 'EMU Choices' project (2016-2021)
- Recipient of ESRC Future Research Leaders’ Scheme Award
Key Roles: Group Leader for the Jean Monnet Centre of Excellence for Next Generation EU-UK Relations at KCL. Visiting Fellowships include the Blavatnik School of Government (Oxford) and Sheffield Political Economy Research Institute (SPERI).
Publications: Recent works include books on multi-level financial regulation and bank politics, as well as articles in Review of International Political Economy, New Political Economy, and Journal of European Public Policy.
