Scott J. Shapiro is the Charles F. Southmayd Professor of Law and Professor of Philosophy at Yale Law School, affiliated with Yale University. He holds a B.A. and Ph.D. in Philosophy from Columbia University (1987, 1996) and a J.D. from Yale Law School (1990). His work bridges philosophy of law, international law, cybersecurity, and AI ethics. He co-authored The Internationalists (2017), which won the 2018 Scribes Book Award, and Fancy Bear Goes Phishing (2023). Shapiro co-founded the Yale Legal AI Lab and the Yale Documentary Project. From 2024–2025, he served as Special Assistant for AI Ethics to the Chief AI Officer at CISA.
