Scott Shapiro is the Charles F. Southmayd Professor of Law and Philosophy at Yale University. His research spans legal philosophy, the philosophy of action, and rational choice theory, with a focus on the normative foundations of law and international order.
His recent work explores the collapse of norms against war, the legal implications of autonomous systems, and the historical evolution of international law through treaties like the Kellogg-Briand Pact. He has published extensively on topics such as the internal point of view in jurisprudence, causation in tort law, and the intersection of legal reasoning with computational logic.
Notable publications include Legality (2011), co-editorship of The Oxford Handbook of Jurisprudence and Philosophy of Law (2002), and recent articles on AI accountability, war manifestos, and the ethics of cyber warfare.
