Scott Garson is a Teaching Professor and Coordinator of Undergraduate Creative Writing at the University of Missouri's Department of English, College of Arts and Science. He is based in 09 Tate Hall and teaches courses in Creative Writing and Writing & Rhetoric. Garson holds an MFA from George Mason University.
His research and teaching focus on creative writing, with notable publications including the story collection Is That You, John Wayne? (2013) and the microfiction collection American Gymnopédies (2012). His fiction appears in Electric Literature, Kenyon Review, and other prominent literary journals. He serves as Editor of the Pushcart Prize-winning flash fiction journal Wigleaf and leads its internship program.
Garson has received prestigious awards such as the MU Undergraduate Research Mentor of the Year (2023), multiple Best Microfiction accolades (2020–2022), and the MU English Davidson Faculty Fellowship (2020). His recent works explore themes in contemporary narrative forms, experimental prose, and creative writing pedagogy.
He actively mentors students through Wigleaf internships and contributes to academic initiatives in creative writing education. His scholarly and creative output bridges literary innovation with pedagogical excellence.
