Scott Downham is a Lecturer in Digital Economy and Innovation Education at King’s College London’s Department of Digital Humanities. He holds a PhD in Politics from Royal Holloway, University of London, alongside an inSTIL teaching qualification and Associate Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy (AFHEA). His research focuses on political communication, digital media’s societal impacts, and gaming cultures. Downham also possesses a Sociology MRes, a Journalism and English Language bachelor’s degree, and multiple professional journalism certifications from the University of Portsmouth.

His research interests span digital platforms’ role in political engagement, hate speech dynamics, gamer identity representation, and public sector data governance. He contributes to the Global Digital Cultures Research Group and co-leads the Digital Humanities Game Lab at King’s College, exploring how digital practices circulate globally and their socio-cultural transformations.
Downham has taught courses on political communication, digital humanities, and research methods. His industry background includes two years as a journalist specializing in the Halo franchise, blending practical experience with academic inquiry.
