Scott Davidson is a Professor of Philosophy at West Virginia University (WVU) and Director of the Multidisciplinary Studies Programs. He also holds faculty positions at the University of Massachusetts Amherst (Languages, Literatures and Cultures) and Oklahoma City University (Philosophy/Rhetoric). His research focuses on continental philosophy, particularly the works of Paul Ricoeur, Michel Henry, and thinkers like Hannah Arendt, Michel Foucault, and Judith Butler. Central themes include ethics, political philosophy, philosophy of law, and phenomenology. Davidson has authored or edited numerous books, including The Michel Henry Reader and A Companion to Ricoeur’s Fallible Man, and has translated key philosophical works into English.
His academic contributions bridge hermeneutics and phenomenology, emphasizing interdisciplinary approaches to understanding human existence, morality, and societal structures. Davidson’s current project, Pathos and Praxis: An Integrated Phenomenology of Life, explores Ricoeur and Henry’s philosophies. He mentors students in pre-law studies and advocates for multidisciplinary education to address complex societal challenges.
Publications span journals like Journal of French and Francophone Philosophy and The Journal of Speculative Philosophy, addressing topics such as metaphorical transcendence, intersectional hermeneutics, and ethical responsibility in the digital age. Davidson’s work often intersects with contemporary debates on language, translation, and the ethical implications of philosophical thought.
