Ton Schumacher is a Professor of Immunotechnology at Leiden University Medical Center (since 2005) and a Full Member of the Department of Immunology at The Netherlands Cancer Institute (since 2005). He has held leadership roles, including Deputy Director of The Netherlands Cancer Institute (2012–2016) and Chief Scientific Officer (CSO) at Kite Pharma EU (0.2 FTE since 2015). His research focuses on cancer immunotherapy, T cell-based immune responses, antigen presentation, and single-cell tracing.
He has an extensive career in immunology, beginning with postdoctoral training at MIT (1992–1996) and progressing through roles at The Netherlands Cancer Institute since 1996. His work has earned numerous accolades, including the ERC Advanced Grant (2011 and 2017), the W.B. Coley Award (2016), and the Amsterdam Inventor Award (2010).
