Saundra Weddle is a Professor of Architecture at the Hammons School of Architecture, Drury University, since 2012. She earned her Ph.D. in the History of Architecture and Urbanism from Cornell University and has held teaching positions at Syracuse University, Washington University in Saint Louis (as a Visiting Professor), and the University of Illinois Study Abroad Program in Versailles, France. Her academic career spans over two decades, beginning as a Drury faculty member in 2001.
- Education: B.A. from Penn State University (1986), M.A. (1992), and Ph.D. (1997) from Cornell University.
Her research focuses on the intersection of urban history, gender studies, and architectural theory, particularly examining the spatial practices of marginalized groups in early modern Italian cities. Key projects include the study of Florentine and Venetian convents, and a forthcoming book analyzing the spatial dynamics of Venice's sex trade. These works utilize archival research, digital mapping, and historical GIS.
She has received multiple accolades, including the Faculty Award for Scholarship (2011, 2021) and the Tau Sigma Delta Silver Medal (2014, 2020). Her research has been supported by grants from prestigious institutions like the National Humanities Center and the Andrew Mellon Foundation.
