Satoshi Yamazaki is an Associate Professor in Economics (Macro) at the University of Tasmania, affiliated with the Tasmanian School of Business and Economics. His research centers on environmental and resource economics, with a strong focus on fisheries management, natural resource sustainability, and socio-economic impacts in both developed and developing contexts.

Yamazaki’s research interests span environmental valuation, fisheries economics, climate change impacts, small-scale aquaculture, and food security. He frequently applies econometric and bioeconomic modeling to assess policy effectiveness and sustainability in marine and agricultural systems.
His recent publications reveal a strong trend in interdisciplinary research, combining economics with ecology and policy, particularly in the Asia-Pacific region. Topics include informal pricing in fish markets, pandemic impacts on aquaculture, marine protected areas, and the socio-economic effects of climate change. Yamazaki has supervised multiple PhD and Master’s students, including Yifan Lu, Mary Mackay, and Namgay Dorji, and has led numerous funded research projects with organizations such as the Fisheries Research & Development Corporation, Australian Institute of Marine Science, and CSIRO.
