Dr. Yukiko Yamazaki is an Associate Professor at the John A. Burns School of Medicine, University of Hawaii, affiliated with the Department of Anatomy, Biochemistry and Physiology and the Yanagimachi Institute for Biogenesis Research. Her work focuses on reproductive biology and assisted reproductive technologies.
- Education: Master of Veterinary Science (1985) at Rakuno Gakuen University, PhD in Agriculture (1990) at Kitasato University
- Postdoctoral Training: Mitsubishi Kasei Institute of Life Sciences and National Institute for Physiological Science in Japan
Dr. Yamazaki's research investigates germ cell differentiation, oocyte developmental competence, and epigenetic reprogramming of imprinted genes. She pioneered a 3D ovarian tissue culture system using Matrigel and bioinert hydrogel to study follicle growth and fertility preservation for cancer patients.
Her publications reveal a focus on in vitro follicle growth, sex differentiation, and germ cell developmental programming. Key methodologies include integrin signaling analysis, FGF9 dose-response experiments, and nuclear transfer techniques.
Dr. Yamazaki leads research efforts at the Yanagimachi Institute for Biogenesis Research, where her team examines molecular mechanisms in follicle growth. She has mentored students in the Developmental and Reproductive Biology and Cell and Molecular Biology graduate programs at the University of Hawaii.
