Lacy Barton

Lacy Barton is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Neuroscience, Developmental and Regenerative Biology within the College of Sciences at the University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA). Her research focuses on understanding the developmental biology of primordial germ cells—the precursors to eggs and sperm—using Drosophila, mouse, and cell culture models. She is committed to advancing scientific literacy and expanding access to research careers.

• Impact of parental age on next-generation germ cell development
• Germ cell tumor formation

Her recent publications highlight work on juvenile hormone signaling, germ cell migration, and developmental timing in Drosophila, with articles appearing in Current Biology and Development. These studies often involve collaborations with leading scientists such as Ruth Lehmann and Ryusuke Niwa. Her lab uses advanced techniques including single-cell RNA sequencing and confocal microscopy.
